Ahmedabad GIFT City Region Becomes a Tier-II Hub for GCCs

The Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar–GIFT City region is quickly emerging as India’s most dynamic Tier-II zone for Global Capability Centres (GCCs). This growth is being powered by strong infrastructure, attractive state-level incentives, and a rising base of skilled professionals. According to a report released in August 2024 by global consultancy Zinnov, Ahmedabad holds the top position among 20 Tier-II cities in terms of ecosystem readiness for GCCs.

Currently, Ahmedabad hosts over 35 GCCs and Global In-House Centres (GICs), more than 25 service providers, and 60+ startups, making it the largest GCC hub for such operations outside the Tier-I cities. Within this belt, GIFT City has especially become a hotspot for multinational firms focusing on innovation, technology, and back-end processes. In just the past year, notable global players like Infineon Technologies and Technip Energies have entered the scene under the non-financial services (Non-FS) segment, joining big names such as Google, Oracle, IBM, Capgemini, Infosys, TCS, and Wipro. Sources indicate that Telus Digital is also set to join this growing ecosystem.

“‘GIFT City’s IFSC offers a unique 10-year tax exemption under Section 80LA— an incentive unmatched anywhere else in India,’ said Jaiman Patel…”, Partner at EY. He added that this, combined with Gujarat’s business-friendly environment—including lower stamp duties, power tariff reductions, and full PF reimbursements for women hires — makes the region extremely attractive for global investors.

Over 850 IFSC entities and an annual 25 percent annual growth, GIFT City continues to see strong momentum. Major global corporations such as Bank of America, Amneal Pharmaceuticals, S&P Global, Kraft Heinz, and Thomson Reuters have already established operations here, drawn by the zone’s regulatory transparency, scalability, and plug-and-play infrastructure.

Recent policy initiatives like the Gujarat Semiconductor Policy (2022–27) and a new GCC-focused policy have further boosted interest from tech and electronics system design & manufacturing (ESDM) companies. These policies offer tailor-made benefits such as fast-track approvals and focused financial assistance. “GIFT City is becoming a strategic base for GCCs, thanks to a strong mix of infrastructure, policy stability, and ease of operations,” said Tapan Ray, Managing Director & Group CEO of GIFT City. He also mentioned ongoing collaborations with global universities and the launch of specialized skill development programs to support long-term talent needs.

While companies have access to a large pool of entry-level talent, industry leaders acknowledge the need to build and retain experienced mid- and senior-level professionals. Still, the region stands out for its high living standards, cost efficiency, safety, and overall quality of life — key factors for companies evaluating global expansion sites.

Technip Energies is one of the most recent global entrants to bet big on the expanse. “Our new office in GIFT City, which is our fourth in India, has exceeded expectations,” shared B.V. Ramanakumar, Director of the Ahmedabad Centre. “We are hiring 50 to 60 new employees monthly and anticipate reaching 400 by the fourth quarter. The infrastructural support and space provided have exceeded our expectations.”
